The Career Fairy.
Once perhaps in a hundred years a Fairy appears on the scene; that wants to get on in life and become first one of the wise old Fairies and then on to the Fairy University. Such a Fairy was Joanfee. Joanfee was a bright young Fairy at school and studied well. Her teachers all said that Joanfee would get on well in life. Whatever Joanfee did it had to be near perfect. Her first Fairy wand was so perfect that she could make magic as easily as she could sing. Joanfee could sing most beautifully and was during her work at colouring the flowers always the first to start off one of the lovely Fairy songs. Joanfee also had talent in languages and was most fluent not only in the old Fairy Language but also in French, German and Spanish. When Fairies from other countries visited Fairyland Joanfee was chosen as one of the interpreters if it was necessary. Soon Joanfee went with her Majesty whenever she went abroad. Often as a translator she had the opportunity to sing. Soon her singing became well known in many countries and she was often asked to sing one of the old songs in the old Fairy Language. One day during one of these song evenings Joanfee met a wonderful Fairy singer Baritone. It was not long before the young couple married. One day during one of their conversations the topic came onto singing. The Baritone told his wife Joanfee that the choirmaster in the local choir where he sang recognised that the boy had great talent and he sent the boy to one of Fairylands greatest musicians. Joanfee's husband the Baritone then asked Joanfee where she learned to sing so well. Joanfee told him of her ambitions to become a wise old fairy and go to the Fairy University. One day as she was working on the flowers she heard a skylark singing high in the sky. Joanfee was so fascinated by the skylark’s songs that she copied them. Soon Joanfee had many skylark friends. The skylarks competed with each other in giving this young fairy girl lessons in singing. Soon Joanfee could imitate all of the songs that the skylarks sang so beautifully. It was not long before she sang the songs of the old Fairy language in the same way as she had learned to sing from the skylarks. Practise as one says makes the Master and soon Joanfee would break out into song on all and every occasion. Now the married pair sing professionally in all of the world’s greatest opera houses. The Scala, The Metropolitan and many other famous opera houses in the world. Her knowledge of languages helped the young pair immensely. Now Joanfee has forgotten her wanting to go to the Fairy University and of her wanting to be one of the wise old Fairies. The couple come sometimes to Fairyland and give a performance for the little folk. I am always invited and have spent many a happy evening listening to first class music sung by Fairyland’s famous singing pair. Bern
